This former Grade II church was in poor condition with a lot of water damage. On behalf of the client we negotiated the purchase of the land to the side to create a viable development. The proposed scheme was challenging to provide a profitable scheme, but we managed to deliver a scheme for 118 student studios.
The scheme went through an extensive pre-application process with Heritage England and the LPA. The scheme was well received and has been a great success in saving the former church building – the original clock was also fully restored.
The interior of the former church is allowed to show its true character within the modern development, there are historical arches and columns within studios. In addition, we provided large internal areas so that the original stained-glass windows could be saved and enjoyed.
